2022 Photography Year-in-Review

This stunner taken on film by the talented Rachel Weaver

I think I should start off this year-in-review with the obvious that my 2022 (and life) was changed drastically for the better with the birth of our daughter Melian. Nothing will come close to the moment that she entered our lives, and I’m excited to go into this new year with more love, and maybe a bit of a different perspective that can only come from having your heart now living on the outside of your body.

Another new addition and highlight of this year was that my business grew with a team of 4 incredible associate photographers. I was so lucky to find these ladies and to have them mirror my heart and style so effortlessly. I could not have gotten through 2022 without them.

But, I am also SO incredibly grateful for all of the couples and individuals who have walked through this year with me as my clients and now friends. You made this year as perfect as it was by simply being present and allowing me to do this thing that I love and also get to call my job.

In honor of that, I want to show you some of my favorite shots from the year.

The business of photography can have its ups and downs, as I’m sure you can imagine, but there is something special about being asked by perfect strangers, or maybe friends of friends, to capture a particular slice of their life and have it be immortalized on film.

Getting in front of the camera requires a little bit of trust and courage, especially from my clients, whom I ask to be perfectly themselves for me so that I can capture their particular brand of magic. It really is a privilege to see through the curtain and try to find those special interactions, moments, and mannerisms that make a person or a couple unique and memorable.

I think it’s a part of my job to recognize those moments and collect the pieces that paint the whole picture of their story.

For engagements and weddings, it’s finding those loaded looks, those carefree laughs, and that romance when it feels like no one is looking.

For my families, it’s capturing the awe and wonder of this new family unit they made, something that’s so perfectly theirs, and so surprising because it comes with no instruction manual. I love to find parents delighting in these new experiences.

And for my business professionals who seek out branding portraits, it’s being able to showcase the thing that makes them special. Finding that innate power in the unique harnessing of their craft in the way that only they can do it.

It gives me unfiltered joy to seek out these moments with the people who put their trust in me to do it, and you are, each in turn, very special to me and my family. If I could have pizza and dance parties with each of you individually, I would!

So, please enjoy these hand picked photos of everything that was amazing about 2022. I can’t wait to do it all over again this year.

XOXO

Barbara

2022 by the numbers:

  • 35 weddings photographed by me and BOP team

  • 30 lifestyle sessions photographed by me and BOP team

  • 30,775 photos edited and delivered

And the biggest highlight of the year, of MY LIFE, really:

  • 1 baby successfully delivered (arrived at the hospital at 2.15am and she was born at 3.13am. Melian was ready to see this World!)

Some of these photos were taken by BOP team of associate photographers: Lindsay, Lauren, Alyssa, Blake, Corinne and Izzy, without whom, this year would not have been possible.
