Chic Joyful Mt. Washington Mill Dye House Wedding | Baltimore, Maryland
If you’re in a line of work where you’re constantly meeting new people, you tend to get really good at collecting first impressions, as well as reading the room. Even if the impression isn’t 100% because people are generally shy, or they’re reserved until they get to know you, you can tell from the way they move, speak, and interact with their surroundings and others, what kind of energy they’re bringing to table.
And I’m a BIG believer in energy and what you put out and receive from the world.
All that’s to say: I knew from the moment I consulted with Katie and Peter that we were going to HAVE A BALL.
Both Katie and Peter told me they just wanted their wedding to be an excuse to have a fun party and bring all of their family and friends together. Katie noted that they’re pretty casual at heart, and many of the traditions surrounding weddings weren’t really on their list of priorities. Their main priority was that they wanted to enjoy the day without too much fuss. I couldn’t have said it better myself.
Katie and Peter’s East Coast/West Coast love affair began when the met in Chicago, even though Katie’s from Massachusetts and Peter is from San Diego. He moved to Baltimore for an internship, and after some long-distance love, Katie moved to join him, and they never looked back.
When I shot their engagement session in their neighborhood of Fells Point, I could tell that they were such a great match. Peter made her laugh with his boundless energy and Katie played it up right alongside him.
The day of their wedding, they were looking forward to reveling in the gorgeous Dye House architecture, and celebrating all the amazing contributions their friends and family made to their big day.
Katie's mom handmade her daughter’s veil with pearls from her own and her grandmother's dress, and she also embroidered shirts for the bridesmaids to wear as they were getting ready. Talk about crafty!
In more sweet gestures, Peter’s ring was his grandfather’s, and their wedding cake was inspired by Katie's grandfather, who worked as a baker and cake decorator in Chicago's heyday. It was a total family affair, and that showed through from beginning to end.
In keeping with their commitment to keeping it low-key, the whole wedding party was in cream, which was so light and airy looking on camera, and their decor was simple and elegant greenery with light pinks and more white and cream. Everything looked amazingly chic against the rough-hewn Mill backdrops and sparkled under the cafe lights.
There was so much laughter, so many expressions of joy, and they whole day seemed to go off without a hitch because everyone rolled with the flow.
I can’t imagine a better wish for a wedding day, and I’m so thrilled we were able to be a part of this epic love story!
